Nernst Equation (log vs. ln)

Postby Adrienne Dang 1B » Sun Feb 18, 2018 11:22 pm

I know that we discussed in class the difference between using log and ln in the nernst equation, but is there any specific reason we would choose one over the other? or does it not matter?

in class he mentioned log is included because that is what is used in the ph scale

I believe that you should use the log or ln stated for each version of the equation given just to avoid an error but to be truthful I'm not entirely sure if there is a difference.

During discussion my TA mentioned that there is no difference, but if you use ln it is easier to relate to other equations that also use ln

Yes if you make sure ln x= 2.303 log x. Otherwise your answers would both be the same
