### Reaction Rate Orders

Is the order of a reaction determined by the highest order of a reactant or the combined orders of the reactants?

### Re: Reaction Rate Orders

I think reaction order is combined order of reactants.

### Re: Reaction Rate Orders

The overall order for a reaction is determined by the combined order of the reactants.

In essence, you add up the exponents. Given that rate=k[A]^N*[B]^M*[C]^L, to find the overall order, you add N+M+L.

For example, given that rate=k[A]^2[B]^2[C]^-1, the overall order is found by adding up the exponents. In this case, it would be an overall order of 3.

### Re: Reaction Rate Orders

The overall order of a reaction is determined by the sum of the exponents (the order of each reactant).

It is the combined order of the reactants
