fast and slow elementary reactions
when finding the rate constant from elementary reactions, do we ignore the slow reaction or the fast reaction and why?

Re: fast and slow elementary reactions
Both reactions are important in determining overall reaction. However, pertaining to rate law, the slow step (AKA the rate determining step) is the one that is used.

Re: fast and slow elementary reactions
The rate law of multi-step reactions can't be predicted from the net reaction, so the slow step determines the rate law.

Re: fast and slow elementary reactions
Both reactions are important but the slowest reaction is the bottleneck of the reaction and thus determines the rate of the reaction itself.
