### Reaction Profiles

How can we tell from a reaction profile whether a reaction is spontaneous? I understand that it must be energetically favorable, but at what point is the activation energy low enough? Do we just assume that it is low enough when the hump is relatively low?

The adjective "spontaneous" is specifically used in this case to describe a reaction with a negative delta G (Greactant > Gproduct). The activation energy has to do with kinetics, which only has to do with rates of reaction, so you dont have to pay attention to it when determining whether a rxn is favorable (spontaneous).

The activation energy doesn't matter. A reaction is spontaneous when the products have lower energy than the reactants, making $\Delta G$ negative.
