## Homogeneous vs Heterogeneous Reactions

$aR \to bP, Rate = -\frac{1}{a} \frac{d[R]}{dt} = \frac{1}{b}\frac{d[P]}{dt}$

What is the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions?

### Re: Homogeneous vs Heterogeneous Reactions

homogeneous reactions have reactants and products that are all in the same phase (gas, liquid, solid, aqueous). heterogeneous reactions include more than one phase in the reaction

### Re: Homogeneous vs Heterogeneous Reactions

"Homogeneous reactions are chemical reactions in which the reactants and products are in the same phase, while heterogeneous reactions have reactants in two or more phases. Reactions that take place on the surface of a catalyst of a different phase are also heterogeneous. A reaction between two gases or two miscible liquids is homogeneous. A reaction between a gas and a liquid, a gas and a solid or a liquid and a solid is heterogeneous" - I was unsure of this as well and found this on wikipedia

a miscible liquid is when you mix liquids and there aren't distinct layers and it forms the same phase.
