Test 2 Cell Diagram

Postby Maggie Doan 1I » Tue Mar 12, 2019 11:23 pm

When do we use a comma for the cell diagram?
Do we also use a conductor when there is no solid present?

a) You use a comma when there are two species in the same phase. For example, if is being oxidized to in the anode, you use a comma to separate them in the cell diagram, instead of a vertical line.

b} Yes, you use a conductor (usually platinum) when no solid is present.

Also, if there is a solid in the reaction, make sure it is conducting (metal). If not, we then add Pt(s).

comma separates species in the same states

you have to add a conductor if there is no conducting metal or mercury Hg liquid or graphite I believe
