Class Curve

I know there's no curve, but 50% is passing with a C-. How does the rest of the class grading balance out if a C- is 50%? is it 50-75% is a C- and then the rest, C-A+ follows a normal grading scale, or is it evened out to, say, 50-65% is a C scale, 66-80% is a B scale, etc etc?

I would assume 50-72% or so would be a C- and then the rest of the grading would be on a normal scale. I'm sure you could ask your TA though, or professor Lavelle.

I don't think it says that C- is passing in the syllabus but that has seemed to be the case at least in 14A.

C- is considered passing I believe. If you get a D+ though you will still get credit from the course but will not be able to move in the series. That was the case for 14A and I would assume it would be similar for this course as well.

I am confused on this as well, but I think 50% is the minimum and it goes in increments of 10-20% for the rest of the letter grades.

On the syllabus, it states, "50% or higher is required to pass with a C- or higher." Therefore, if your overall grade in the class is 50% or higher, you pass the class. However, I am not entirely sure about the breakdown...

In the syllabus, it says that 50% is required to get a C-, and a C- is passing and is what is required to move on to the next course in the series.

Dr. Lavelle may also adjust the grades after the final has been graded. In 14A, I believe his policy was that once all of the class averages were in, he would adjust the grading scale accordingly if it was needed. He will probably have a similar policy for 14B, though I wouldn't rely on this changing a grade drastically.

I remember him saying that getting below a 50% means you are at risk of failing, but I'm not really sure how he does the final grade.

I believe Dr. Lavelle curves the final class grade based on how all of the classes did. He did this in 14A, otherwise I would've ended up with a lower grade than I actually did.

I think it says you cannot pass with under a 50% but it does not specify if you will if you have over.
