Porous Disk vs Salt Bridge

Postby Julia Go 2L » Sat Mar 16, 2019 11:04 pm

Why is the notation for a porous disk a single line (|) but for a salt bridge it is double lines? (||)

Well I would imagine it to be that way because a porous disk is one layer thats touching both solutions while the salt bridge has two sides that touch only their respective part of the cell.

The reason isn't too important. What's important is that you know that for a galvanic cell, the notation for a porous disk is a single vertical line and the notation for a salt bridge is 2 vertical lines. :)
