isochoric/isometric: $\Delta V = 0$
isothermal: $\Delta T = 0$

### adiabatic systems

when a system is adiabatic, does that mean no heat is being introduced into the system or does it mean that there is no existing heat at all inside the system?

### Re: adiabatic systems

It just means that the heat is constant, there will always be some level of heat within a system. Here it just doesnt change.

### Re: adiabatic systems

No heat is gained or lost by the system, so q=o and delta U = w.

### Re: adiabatic systems

Adiabatic means there is no heat flow, no heat is being transferred between the system and the surroundings

### Re: adiabatic systems

It means that there it no additional heat being transferred between or within the system. There could already be heat in there to begin with but it will not change.

### Re: adiabatic systems

adiabatic means no heat exchange (but there can he heat already stored in the system, there is just no heat loss or gain). in an adiabatic system, q=0

### Re: adiabatic systems

it means that q=0, so delta=w. it will usually be specified in the problem.

### Re: adiabatic systems

Adiabatic is when q=0, so that would mean that there is no transfer of heat.

### Re: adiabatic systems

Adiabatic means there is no heat exchange, however there can already be heat within the system.

### Re: adiabatic systems

According to the textbook, it just means that there's o heat transfer between the system and its surroundings even if there's a temperature difference.
