Re: Van't Hoff use
You would use this equation when you are trying to find out how a K value would change if you increased the temperature of a reaction (you would need to be given another K value at a lower or higher temp which is why there is K1/K2 and T1/T2).

Re: Van't Hoff use
Usually a Van't Hoff question will give you the reaction enthalpy and ask you to either find a K value from an original K and two temperatures, or a T value from and original T and 2 equilibrium constants.

you use Van't Hoff when you are trying to relate a K value to the increasing temperature T.

Re: Van't Hoff use
I have found that we use Vant Hoff when we are either given 2 temperatures and a K or two Ks and a temperature.

Re: Van't Hoff use
The vant hoff equation can be rearranged to find different values, such as G values, enthalpy, entropy, temperature, and K values
Re: Van't Hoff use
You use Vant Hoff when you are trying to find how K changes as temperature changes.

Re: Van't Hoff use
You can use this equation to find a lot of things depending on how you decide to rearrange the equation, but you know you need to use if the reaction involves a temperature change

Re: Van't Hoff use
The Van't Hoff equation would be used in order to determine the equilibrium constant as the temperature changes. Therefore, when you have two temperatures and two K values, one can use the Van't Hoff equation.

Re: Van't Hoff use
You would use the Van't Hoff equation when there is a temperature change and you are looking to find an equilibrium constant.

Re: Van't Hoff use
It would be used in a situation where you are trying to find a K value at a different temperature. For instance, on test 2, we were given the K value at one temp and we were asked to find the K value at a different temperature since the K value changes with temperature. In that situation, we would have to use the Van't Hoff equation.
