Use of Kelvin

Postby Danieljm1B » Wed Jun 26, 2019 11:37 pm

What does it mean when the professor said that 0 degrees Kelvin is the absolute zero of temperature?

0 degrees Kelvin is the lowest theoretical possible temperature.

Basically temperature can't drop further than 0 Kelvin, it's the lowest limit.

Temperature is the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles of a substance. At absolute zero the kinetic energy of the particles is zero, ie they stop moving. Because you can't have negative kinetic energy, you can't go past zero.

0 Kelvin is at absolute zero. Because you can't have negative kinetic energy, you can't go past zero. When at absolute zero, the particles stop moving.

0 kelvin is the lowest possible temperature. Absolute zero is defined as 0 kelvin, which is the lowest possible temperature. Also it may be easier to remember that kelvin is a absolute Temperature scale so absolute 0 logically would mean 0 K.

It is the lowest temperature we can reached
