dsp3 vs. sp3d

4.35 Identify the hybrid orbitals used by the atom in boldface type in each of the following species: (c) BrF3

I got the answer for this problem to be dsp3 since the lewis structure comes out to be a trigonal bipyramidal. However, the solutions manual shows that it is sp3d. Is one correct over the other? If so, what is the difference between the two?

I think lavelle in class said that either way is okay, because in his lecture notes he writes it as dsp^3, but he said that the textbook writes it as sp^3d and both are correct.

dsp3 and sp3d are both correct.

Both are fine, but sp3d is preferred.
