### Molarity

I know that the fraction of molarity is: moles of solution over volume of solution, but what does molarity actually represent and when would I need to calculate it?

### Re: Molarity

Molarity is a concentration of moles in a solution. A bigger picture is how strong a solution is. You would need it when determining limiting reactants with aqueous solutions.

### Re: Molarity

Knowing the molarity can also help you find the moles of a compound given that you know the volume and vice versa.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity is the concentration of moles in a solution. Knowing the molarity of a solution is essential when you create dilutions and conduct reactions with aqueous solutions.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity represents the concentration of a solution (specifically the number of moles of solute per liter of solution). You would need to calculate molarity in a wide variety of various situations, including calculating the moles of a solution, calculating the volume of a solution, calculating the moles and / or volume of a solution before and / or after dilutions, etc.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity can be determined by dividing the moles of solute by the volume (in liters) of solution; molarity essentially just represents how concentrated a particular solution is.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity is relevant when dealing with solutions. By doing molarity calculations, you can determine the moles of solute and how you may need to dilute the solution.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity can be used to figure out the concentration of the solute in the solution. It can be calculated when doing a lab to get the correct concentration of a solution. it is also helpful if given molarity as a variable you can either solve for Liters or moles of a substance depending on what else is given.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity is used to calculate the concentration of of molecules in a solution. It is useful when you want to find the strength of a solution or when you are given a question asking you to dilute a solution and need to use the MV(initial)=MV(final) equation.

### Re: Molarity

Molarity is a measure of concentration and is usually used when the solvent is water and/or the amount of solute is relatively small compared to the amount of solvent used. Later on, we'll probably learn molality, which is a better concentration when calculating things like temperature changes or when the solvent of the solution is not water.
