Re: Combustion
Yes because combustion occurs when there is burning of something in the presence of oxygen. When this occurs, energy is released and carbon dioxide and water are yielded as by products.

Re: Combustion
Normally it does, however there are some cases where there is incomplete combustion and it actually produces carbon monoxide. But yeah, basically CO2 and H2O as products :)

Re: Combustion
Yes, combustion (and oxidation) involve a compound reacting with oxygen (O2) and producing a certain amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).

Re: Combustion
If it's a hydrocarbon being combusted (made up of only Carbon and Hydrogen), then Water and CO2 will always be the only 2 products.

Re: Combustion
Hi Aprice_1J, No you cannot have a combustion with any other products other than CO2 and H2O. Though combustion analysis is used to find empirical formulas, its only products are CO2 H2O. I hope this helps !

No, it cannot, combustion only produces water vapor which is made up of CO2 and H2O
For example, combustion of propane would be: C3H8 + 5O2 → 3CO2 + 4H2O, only producing water vapor

Re: Combustion
Can something other than a hydrocarbon combust? Would an equation with a molecule not containing carbon or hydrogen reacting with O2 not be considered combustion?
