Dissociation Energies

Postby Chu 3J » Sun Oct 18, 2015 10:24 pm

Why does the dissociation energy get smaller as the atom get bigger, wouldn't it take more energy to dissociate a large atom compared to a smaller one?

Bonds involving large atoms have a large bond length, and the larger the bond length the smaller the bond energy.
