Planck's constant
What is the purpose of plugging in Planck's constant into the formula E=hv? What is the formula for?

Re: Planck's constant
Plugging in Planck's constant is in reference to measuring how much energy is exerted by photons.

Re: Planck's constant
The unit of Planck's constant is in J*s. When multiplying Planck's constant by the frequency of the wave which is in units 1/s, the seconds will cancel and you are left with Joules which are a unit of energy. This tells how much energy is in one photon of light.

Re: Planck's constant
Planck's constant is critical as a constant because it relates the energy of a photon to its frequency.
Re: Planck's constant
This equation also shows that energy is directly proportional to frequency! The equation E=hc/lambda shows that energy is indirectly proportional to wavelength.

Re: Planck's constant
The equation helps us calculate the energy of light. Planks constant has the units: J*s, which cancels out with the frequency units: 1/s. It helps us find the energy in J (Joules).

Re: Planck's constant
The purpose of the constant has to do with its units and obviously the value it has in the equation. When its units cancel out with frequency you are left with Joules, the desired unit for energy which is the purpose of the equation (to find how much energy a wave has).

Re: Planck's constant
Planck's constant is 6.626 x10^-34 J s. It is used to relate the energy of a particle to its frequency. The equation E=hv, we can be manipulated to h=E/v. Therefore, h or Planck's constant gives the ratio of energy to frequency and its relationship between these two variables.

Thank you for your explanation on what the equation shows us.

Planck’s constant is a vital component of the e=hv equation because it relates the amount of energy emitted to the speed, is with units J.s
