Wrong Textbook
I just started in 14A and I don't have the correct textbook yet. Will I be penalized if I do homework problems from a different edition?

Re: Wrong Textbook
If you need to do the homework while you try and get the right textbook, you can just use the ebook! On Lavelle's website there's a link called Sapling Learning and e-textbook. You can just follow the steps to make your account and get the online textbook for 7 days for free. Hopefully that's enough time for you to get the right textbook.

Re: Wrong Textbook
I only have the 6th edition and the class website specifies a requirement of the 7th edition. However, comparing mine to the other textbooks the HW questions are exactly the same and there don't seem to be any major discrepancies. If you have the 6th edition you can assume you'll be fine in terms of HW problems.

I have the 6th edition and the homework problems are just about the same as the 7th edition, so you would be okay with that edition of the textbook

I also have the 6th edition and all the problems and writing is identical, as well as the problem numbers. Just be careful not to mix up page numbers as they are different in the 6th and 7th editions.

Re: Wrong Textbook
Hi McKenna,
I had the 6th edition of the textbook and it is more or less the same as the 7th edition. I cross referenced the homework problems and they are exactly the same, although the page numbers can vary. However, if you have an older edition that does not align with the 7th edition, it can cause issues with the homework. I'd recommend going to Powell Library's Inquiry Desk, where Dr. Lavelle put five copies of the textbook (and answers manual) on reserve. That way, you can make sure that your textbook has the same content as the 7th edition. I hope this helps!
Best,
Rebecca

Re: Wrong Textbook
I also had gotten the 6th edition of the textbook and was worried about whether there would be a major difference between the 6th edition and 7th edition. I asked both an UA and Dr. Lavelle and the consensus was that the issue would be discrepancies between the numbering of problems. I ended up getting the 7th edition, but when I had the 6th edition I crossed-referenced problems between the editions and everything matched up.

I have the pdf version of the book if anyone needs it. I particularly like the pdf versions but the actual book is nice to have as well. Chemical Principles 7th Edition by Peter Atkins.pdf

Re: Wrong Textbook
I have seen both textbooks and the problems are more or less the same, but I would play it safe and just get the 7th edition to make sure that you are doing the correct homework problems for full credit.

Re: Wrong Textbook
I have the 7th edition PDF if you want to use that one. I know some prefer the physical book, but that's expensive. Send me a Pm if you're interested, I'll gladly share it :)
