using older edition textbook

Postby Eugene Chung 3F » Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:21 pm

Is it okay to use an older edition textbook instead of the 7th?
Specifically, I have the 5th edition and was wondering if the questions and material would be drastically different from the 7th edition one.

You might have problems in terms of numbering of questions, especially when handing in homework. I think it's better to get the 6th or 7th edition!

Some questions may be different, but there is a pdf version of the 7th edition textbook in many of the chem 14a facebook messenger groupchats. You can always take a look at that book and compare it to the one you have currently.

All the hw problems so far pretty much matched up with the 6th edition!

My TA told my discussion class that it is best if we use the 7th edition of the chemistry textbook because the questions may be numbered differently. I would definitely recommend getting either the 6th or 7th edition!

I'm using the 6th edition and it's definitely usable ! There are just some questions here and there that are slightly different than the 7th edition.

The bookstore ran out of the bundle with the SSM and textbook. Is it okay if I only have the textbook?

I've heard the 6th edition and the 7th edition are pretty much the same, but you might want to ask your TA to be sure that you can use any other edition besides the 7th.
