Percent Yield
Can someone please explain percent yield to me! I am confused on how to get the actual value versus the theoretical from the equation.

The actual value will be given to you in the question. From there the equation for percent yield is (theoretical/actual) x 100.

actual yield is usually given within the problem.
theoretical yield is found by multiplying the limiting reactant by the molar mass, molar ratio to the product, and then the product by the molar mass to get your theoretical yield of the reaction. You multiply using the limiting reactant because that determines the amount of product that can actually produced.
By dividing actual over theoretical times 100, you get the percent 'efficiency' of the reaction, meaning how much it produced the maximum amount of product.

Sorry, but the percent yield would be the actual amount over the theoretical amount. So, (actual yield/theoretical yield)x100%.

Actual yield is usually given in the problem if you are trying to find percent yield. Also, theoretical yield is usually less than the actual yield due to impurities or other side reactions that occur.

Usually you solve for the theoretical yield using the limiting reactant, which is then divided by the actual yield, then multiplied by 100%. The actual yield is usually given.

Normally, the higher the percent yield (the closer to 100%), the better the experiment because that means not much reaction was stuck to the side or involved in side reactions.
