## Electron Distribution Definition

$H_{\psi }=E_{\psi }$

1-D: $E_{TOTAL}\psi (x)=E_{k}\psi (x)+V(x)\psi(x)=-\frac{h^{2}}{8\pi ^{2}m}\frac{d^{2}\psi(x)}{dx^{2}}+V(x)\psi(x)$

### Electron Distribution Definition

Prof. Lavelle used the term "e- $\rho$ distribution" to describe $\psi ^{2}$. What does $\rho$ mean in this context?

It's the electron density, which is what is drawn in diagrams

And so just be clear on density, that is just referring to the central location of majority of the electrons? Is there a mathematical number associated with this density?

### Re: Electron Distribution Definition

It means density, so electron density is the probability of finding an electron in that location. In an area with higher electron density, you're more likely to find an electron there.
