### Midterm- Electromagnetic spectrum

For the first midterm will we need to memorize the electromagnetic spectrum?

I think it would be important if you at least get a general idea of where each electromagnetic radiation is like gamma rays being in the left side (before visible light) with the highest Energy and radios being in the right side (after the visible light spectrum which is usually in the middle) where there is the least amount of Energy and so on. Also, keep in mind that anything less than 300nm would have HIGH energy since the wavelengths (lambda) are shorter and thus frequency is HIGH (Tip: wavelength (lambda) and frequency have an inverse relationship). On the other hand, anything greater than 700 nm is considered to have LOW energy because the wavelengths are longer and thus the frequency is LOW.
To practice this you can check out the homework problem 1A:5 which shows the order of electromagnetic radiation from least energy to highest energy.

It'd be helpful to know the spectrum because questions we've had include knowing if the wavelength is visible or what type of electromagnetic radiation our answer deals with (like is it gamma or x-ray...). You should also know the wavelength range for the visible light spectrum and the order of the rainbow!

If professor Lavelle mentioned it in his lecture then we should know electromagnetic spectrum.
