What are the units of hertz

I know Hz is measured per second, but what per second??

Re: What are the units of hertz

Hz is the unit for 1 cycle/second. The cycle refers to a wave's cycle and it's from the peak of one wave to the trough of the next

Re: What are the units of hertz

Cycles per second. Think of it as things done or cycles completed per second. Therefore, finding the inverse of frequency would give you how many cycles or things were done.

Re: What are the units of hertz

Hz is unit for frequency, and it equals to 1 cycle / second.

Yes, the units for Hz is s-1 and it basically means that there is one cycle per second.

Re: What are the units of hertz

The unit for Hz, which is a frequency is s^-1. However, it means cycles per second.

Re: What are the units of hertz

As mentioned above Hz is equivalent to s^-1, which is why you can often cancel out Hz when you have m/s in your calculations.

Re: What are the units of hertz

1 Hz = 1 cycle/second but is expressed as 1s^-1 most typically which will help you many times to clearly see unit calculation. Also when you end up with the unit s^-1 if the problem doesn't clearly say to express it like that, it is appropriate to change it back to Hz.

The units for hertz is cycles per second, but the cycles can refer to a number of different cycles so it's -s.

Hz is one cycle per second (1/s) and it is the same as s-1. It just becomes s-1 since it is read in the numerator rather than the denominator.

1/s. For example, 13 Hz = 13/second would be 13 cycles per second

Re: What are the units of hertz

Hertz refers to s^-1. This is justified by the fact that c = v λ; c is in units of m/s, λ is in units of m, therefore leaving v in units of s^-1.

Re: What are the units of hertz

Hertz essentially indicates how many "cycles" of the wave have passed a certain point in one second. In simple terms, 1Hz = 1cycle/second. The "cycle" is implied.

Re: What are the units of hertz

1 Hertz (Hz) = 1 cycle per second (s^-1)
Frequency (v) is measured in Hertz

example:
an electric field that oscillates at 6.4x10^14 Hz (blue light) completes 6.4x10^14 cycles per second
an electric field that oscillates at 4.3x10^14 Hz (red light) completes 4.3x10^14 cycles per second

red light has a lower frequency than blue light
