Sulfur Dioxide
What would be three resonance structures for SO2? Having S with an expanded octet and two double bonds and a lone pair seems to be the most stable due to formal charge. However, experimental evidence suggests that there is one single and one double bond on the S. On the test if we were given a question like this and we only drew the structure with the two double bonds, would we be incorrect?

Re: Sulfur Dioxide
I would always choose the structure that has the lowest formal charge, since that's what we were taught in lecture/discussion. Also, we wouldn't know what the experimental evidence is for a structure on the test so just go by the FC!

Re: Sulfur Dioxide
If the question asks you to draw two resonance structures for Sulfur Dioxide, I think you should do both. But if it just asks for the Lewis structure, draw the one with the lowest formal charge.
