Schrodinger Equation

Postby Madeline Phan 1E » Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:54 pm

I don't really understand the Schrodinger Equation and how it relates to wave function and orbitals. I know we don't need to know how to use it, but can someone explain to me the significance of it?

Schrodinger's wave function equation uses the concept that an electron with wave-like properties and indeterminacy in momentum and position can be described by a wave function. This equation can also be solved for 1 electron atoms.

I think we only need to know the basics that we put the wave function () into the "Hamiltonian operator" and get out energy (E) values that are interpreted to give the shapes of the s, p, d, etc. orbitals that we are familiar with.
