Lewis Structure for Ionic Bonds
Does anyone know when certain bonds would go inside the brackets or not? For example, ammonium chloride has the bonds between N and H4 inside brackets while Cl is outside with the negative charge. When would you know that you have to have certain ones separated by brackets while others are fine with bonding?

I think ions on their own generally are not bracketed, such as Cl-; however, ionic compounds are bracketed. So, when there are multiple atoms that make up a molecule that has a charge all together, there should be a bracket to show that it is the entire molecule that is charged, not just one atom in the molecule.

Charged molecules are completely bracketed with the total charge written outside in the top right corner outside the brackets.

The brackets go around ionic compounds that have a total net charge.
