Test Policy
Just out of curiosity, since we just took the midterm, when the test says "list all formal charges," would it be fine/acceptable just to write the formal charge next to each atom in a Lewis structure? It'd take a long time to list out the calculations for each atom in the Lewis structure...

I believe so. That is what most of us were told to do in reference to formal charges

Adding on, yeah I believe that it's alright to just list the FC next to the atom on the lewis structure, as that's how Dr. Lavelle, the TA's, and the solutions manual would write the formal charges on a problem.

Re: Test Policy
I did the brackets around the molecule to indicate charge. But I also did the formal charge calculations of each atom and listed them next to each individual atom to make sure.

I think it's fine to just put the number next to the atom. That's what a lot of the TAs did too during review sessions are office hours.

Re: Test Policy
When we were in discussion and we were practicing doing lewis structures, we usually just found the formal charge in our head instead of doing the formal charge equation for every one of them. It was much faster and took less time from all the other problems. Also in the review session during class on Monday Lavelle said himself that it would be faster to do it in our head so I think you should be fine.
