Double and Triple Bonds
Why are triple bonds stronger than double bonds? Does this mean then have a stronger pull to the electrons?

Re: Double and Triple Bonds
The main reason why triple bonds are stronger is because the element shares more electrons. It's not necessarily that they have a stronger pull but more electrons are shared between the two of them. This means it will take more effort and energy to break the elements apart because there are more electrons to separate from each other.

Re: Double and Triple Bonds
This is because of the increase in number of electrons shared. Precisely, the textbook defines the reason as, "A multiple bond is almost always stronger than a single bond because more electrons bind the multiply bonded atoms."
Hope that helps

Re: Double and Triple Bonds
Bond lengths in triple bonds are also shorter than double bonds and even shorter than single bonds. The more layers, the shorter the bone, and thus the stronger the bond will be.
