Re: Memorization
Yes. The questions asked will include what is the geometry and shape of the compound and for that I think you would need to, at bare minimum, memorize their names. Other than that, the names would give some hints as to their angles and other characteristics.

Re: Memorization
Yes, I think we are expected to know what the geometrical shape is called and its distinctive characteristics like the bond angles.
Re: Memorization
Did Lavelle cover all of the different structures that we will need to know or will there be more on Friday's lecture?
Re: Memorization
We do have to memorize the different shapes. However, Lavelle said that we are not required to memorize all of the bond angles as we will never be specifically asked to state them. The main thing that he wants us to remember are the shapes.

I think he will go over more on Friday just because he didn't go over the specific shapes that occur once lone pairs get involved and some of the HW problems ask for those structures.

You might be able to use this table to help you conceptualize the models

Re: Memorization
With the shapes, I think it’s also important to know the bond angles associated with them. (Ex. 109.5 degrees for a Tetrahedral).

Re: Memorization
Yes definitely memorize the names he said when asked questions on this topic we will have to name the shape.

Re: Memorization
Yes, we do. I hypothesize the VSEPR questions on the final is going to resemble those from test 2.

Re: Memorization
I think we also need to know the hybridization of the central atom that's associated with each shape.
