It is because the lone pair has a lot of electron repulsion so it pushes the atoms around it away from it. This causes the atoms to get closer together as they are repelled by the electrons in the lone pair, causing the bond angles to get smaller.

Lone pairs have stronger electron repulsion than a bonding atom's electron cloud, so they typically distort bond angles. The bonding atoms are pushed further away from the lone pair. This results in smaller bond angles than if there were only atoms and no lone pairs.

Lone pairs have the strongest repulsion strength because lone pairs are less restrained than a bonding pair would be so it takes up more space making the rest of the atoms move away to lower the repulsion acting upon them.

The electron-electron repulsion between the lone pairs and the bonded atoms pushes the bonded atoms farther away thus lessening the bond angle.

Bond angles get smaller with more lone pairs at the central atom due to lone pair repulsion. Lone pairs want to be far away from the other elements so it will repel the other bonds away from it, causing a decrease in bond angle.

More lone pairs results in more electron-electron repulsion which pushes the atoms away. This results in smaller bond angles because the atoms move closer together.

lone pairs have the greatest repulsion strength, and they repulse electrons of other atoms, which push the atoms closer together and decrease the bond angles
