Naming Order

Postby Labiba Sardar 2A » Sat Nov 23, 2019 12:11 pm

When you're writing out the formula for compounds, does the order of the ligands matter? For example, for 9C. #3d), would it be wrong to write Na[Fe(C2O4)2 (OH2)2] instead of Na[Fe(OH2)2 (C2O4)2 ]?

I think ligands are listed in alphabetical order.

alphabetic order, but disregarding the prefix. but for the formula, doesn't matter

I believe you would list the ligands in alphabetical order.

I think it is okay to write the formula either way, but when you're actually naming the molecule you would have to write it in alphabetical order.

The naming of the molecule should be in alphabetical order.

I don't think it necessarily matters how the formula is arranged as long as the naming is done alphabetically.
