Dimagnetism & Paramagnetism

Postby Emily Vainberg 1D » Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:28 am

Did we go over diamagnetism and paramagnetism in lecture? It is from a chapter we already finished learning but I don't remember hearing this before.

We did not go over dimagnetism or paramagnetism in lecture. Those topics are not included in the 14A curriculum, last I checked.

Ya I don't think we need to know this for the final.

I would still look at Clara Cho's two question's titled "Dimagnetism" and "Paramagnestism." People explained the difference between the two and why they were relevant.

I don't think it will be heavily tested, if at all, but it would be good to understand the concept anyways.

I don't think we ever covered this topic so I don't think it will be tested. If anything regarding this does possible show up, I'm sure the TAs will go over it during review sessions.

I don't think it will be heavily tested either, but just so you know "diamagnetic" means that all electrons are paired, whereas "paramagnetic"means that not all electrons are paired
