Alkali Metals and Alkaline Earth Metals

Postby Danieljm1B » Sun Jul 28, 2019 10:14 pm

What is significant about Alkali Metals and Alkaline Earth Metals as strong bases? In other words, what makes them strong bases?

They are incredibly reactive- Alkali metals form 1+ ions and Alkaline Earth Metals form 2+ ions. As a result, they react strongly with water to form hydroxides

They are also strong because they completely dissociate in water
