Coordination Compounds
Should we memorize the specific compounds Dr. Lavelle mentioned in class and their functions?

Re: Coordination Compounds
I think it's more important to know the biological functions of molecules like cisplatin and hemoglobin than it is to memorize what they look like. He said in class that we wouldn't be asked to draw the compound from memory on the test I think.

Re: Coordination Compounds
I would try to memorize and understand the biological importance of his examples (like cisplatin, myoglobin, and hemoglobin). It would be good to know the connection between the compounds' importance and how they are structured (such as why cisplatin being cis is important).

Re: Coordination Compounds
Yes! It assists with naming while showing the the biological significance, like cisplatin.
Re: Coordination Compounds
Students who previously took this class have told me that anything on his slides is fair game for tests, so it would probably be helpful to familiarize yourself with some of the examples from class, like cisplatin and heme complexes.
Re: Coordination Compounds
What are all of the coordination compounds that we should look at besides cisplatin and hemoglobin?
