Ionic bond --> sigma and pi bonds

In the textbook, it says that all single covalent bonds are sigma bonds. If this is the case, how would we define the bond for an ionic compound such as NaCl?

Sigma bonds are formed when two molecules share electrons. Ionic bonds do not share electrons - but exchange them. Therefore, bonds such as NaCl do not form sigma bonds.

Sigma bonds are formed by the overlapping of orbitals, while ionic compounds are formed with the exchange of electrons. So an ionic bond is essentially an electrostatic attraction.

Sigma and Pi bonds are overlapping of orbitals/ sharing electrons. Ionic bonds do not share electrons, so they do not include sigma or pi bonds.

Sigma or pi bonds are not formed in an ionic compound because sigma and pi bonds are the result of the sharing (and therefore overlapping) of electrons in only covalent compounds.

Sigma and Pi bonds are only present in covalent bonds, as you said above.

It would just be defined as an ionic bond.

Ionic bonds don't form sigma bonds, it is only for shared electrons.

NaCl is an ionic compound and therefore doesn't involve the sharing of electrons. So, there is no bond formed because a bond is the overlapping of orbitals.
