### Hybridization of lone pairs

How do we determine hybridization of lone pairs?

During Lyndon's review session, he labelled the hybridization of the lone pairs of an oxygen atom, which consisted of 2 sets of lone pairs and a double bond, as O (2p2). How did he establish that hybridization?

Lone pairs should be treated like they are a bond, so diatomic oxygen having a double bond and two lone pairs per oxygen atom (which is what I'm assuming you're referring to) would be linear with sp hybridization, as the lone pair technically counts as a 'bond'
