Re: Amphiprotic vs Amphoteric
Amphiprotic means you could either lose a proton or gain a proton, like water. Amphoteric means being able to act as a base and an acid.

Re: Amphiprotic vs Amphoteric
An amphiprotic substance is a substance that is capable of both donating protons (hydrogen ions) and accepting them. A compound that is amphoteric has both acid and base character, thus, allowing it to act as either an acid or a base.

Re: Amphiprotic vs Amphoteric
Amphiprotic is losing and gaining an electron, while amphoteric is being able to act as an acid and base.

Re: Amphiprotic vs Amphoteric
But doesn't losing or gaining of electrons (amphiprotic) mean acting as an acid or base (amphoteric)?
