2sp2 and sp2

Postby Donavin Collins 1F » Sun Dec 08, 2019 10:50 am

Does anyone know if we would be marked down for writing sp2 rather than 2sp2 and vice versa?

I think Linden said in the review session that we can just write sp2

I think that sp2 is fine for hybridization, but if it asks which orbitals are overlapping like in the Marshmallow review question 17 it might be safer to just write 2sp2

I think sp2 is fine. The 2 at the beginning only clarifies the energy level.

Unless the question specifically asks for the energy level to be specified, sp2 should be fine

sp2 should be fine if the question didn't specifically ask for the orbitals that they were in.

You should specify 2sp2 only if the orbital is asked!

For hybridization, the 2 is not needed, but it is if asking about specific orbitals

The 2 in the front is not needed it just lists the group. You can just drop the 2 off in the front. Just matters if you accurately know the geometric shape and the electron densities.

I think you only need to write 2 if the questions asks for it specifically.

If the question is asking for hybridization, then sp2 is fine. I don't believe it was asking for specific level and hybridization.
