Hydrogen Bonding

Is the formation of hydrogen bonds considered an interaction between an acid and base?

I do not think it is the same thing because hydrogen bonding is an intermolecular force, whereas with acids and bases, the molecule is changing and hydrogen is moved to a different molecule.

I also think that is a separate process, since hydrogen bonding is an intermolecular force.

No, its there is no actual bonding or transfer of electrons, its just that the polar sides are strongly attracted to each other

Not necessarily. aqueous acids and bases disassociate in water so I would more closely relate it to an ion-ion interaction. Depending on structure, acids and bases may have the capability of hydrogen bonding, but simple interactions would not be.

No not at all, one is based on a chemical reaction while the other is based on an intermolecular force, do not get both mixed.

No, because no electrons are donated/accepted. H bonding is simply an intermolecular force that results between polar molecules! Hope this helps.

Lewis bases and Lewis acids deal with chemical reactions in which the Lewis base (in the reactant side of a reaction) donates the electrons to the Lewis acid (which is the product side of the reaction). Hydrogen bonding deals with intermolecular attractions in which a Hydrogen atom of one molecule is attracted to a highly electronegative atom (N, O, or F) of another molecule. Hydrogen bonding does not deal with chemical reactions

Hi! The formation of a hydrogen bond can be considered an interaction between a Lewis acid and base. In a hydrogen bond, there is always a donor (H) and acceptor (what is binding to the H atom. For this reason, a formation of a hydrogen bond can be considered an interaction between a Lewis acid and base.
