K values

Postby 505316964 » Thu Jan 09, 2020 11:26 am

I know that when K is less than 10^-3 it favors the reacts,

but how strict is this cut off? if K is a little more than 10^-3 is it close enough to 10^-3 that it still favors the reactants? or does it favor neither products or reactants?

I believe that if K< 10^-3 than the reaction STRONGLY favors reactants, but if it is greater than this cutoff, it still favors reactants but not strongly? The same goes for if K> 10^3, the reaction strongly favors products but if under the cutoff, then it still favors products but not strongly.

If it is greater than 10^-3 but less than 1 it slightly favors the reactants, but not strongly.

When K is less than 10^-3, we can say with certainty that the reaction strongly favors reactants. However when K is between 10^-3 and 1, the concentration of the reactants will be slightly higher than the concentration of the products. Therefore, I would assume that the reaction slightly favors the reactants, but not as strongly as when K is less than 10^-3. Similar reasoning can be applied for the formation of products when K is between 1 and 10^3.

If the K value is between 10⁻³ and 10³ then it SLIGHTLY favors either the product or reactant, depending on if it is bigger or smaller than one.
