Different K's

When are we supposed to use Kp, and when are we supposed to use Kc?

Re: Different K's

I think that when the reactants and products, except pure liquids and solids, are all gases, we should use Kp, whereas using Kc is also okay. But when they are not. we can only use Kc.

Re: Different K's

I believe the Kc and Kp stand for Kc (concentration) and Kp (pressure) respectively. Thus you can use Kc or Kp for gases, as they can be represented as either, but for aqueous solutions you can only denote them using concentration (Kc)

Kc is the equilibrium constant when using concentrations and Kp is for when using pressures.

Re: Different K's

The c in Kc stands for concentration while the p in Kp stands for pressure. It just depends on which you are using to determine the K.

Kp is equilibrium constant for pressure whereas Kc is for concentrations.
