Factors

Postby Lizette Noriega 1H » Wed Jan 15, 2020 9:15 pm

Is temperature the only factor that influences K? Also, which factors influence the reaction quotient?

Yes, temperature is the only factor that influences K. Q is influenced by pressure (when volume is decreased, NOT when adding inert gas) or adding/removing reactants/products.

Yes, as stated previously, temperature is the only factor that can alter K in a reaction at equilibrium. For future reference I believe we also have to know how pressure/concentration alter the direction of the reaction but these changes to not affect K.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, I think Lavelle did mention that temp would be the only factor that changes the K eq.

The reaction quotient depends on the concentrations/pressures of the reactants and products. For reactions not at equilibrium, these values are constantly changing and thus Q is nonconstant. Even for reactions at equilibrium, changes in the concentrations/pressures (adding/removing more reactants/products, compressing the reaction volume, etc.) will result in a change to Q as well.

Yes, temperature is the only factor that will change the K equilibrium.

A change in temperature is the only factor that can change K, but a change in concentration or pressure will shift Q.

How does that change in concentration or pressure shift Q while not altering K?
