Topics for Test 1

Want to manage my studies efficiently, do you guys have recommendations on what topics to prioritize for the test?

My TA said the test would mainly be on the first two sections on the syllabus, "chemical equilibrium and acid/bases equilibria"

Also to help with studying if you haven't taken a class with this professor yet, I would suggest doing all the homework problems to those sections, they help a lot!

I always dedicate most of my time to what HE spends the most time on in lecture! Also, be sure to note every connection he makes to the real world and the human body etc because it’s often featured on tests. Otherwise just go over all the hw problems and focus on what you don’t understand 100%!

The UA's said the material would cover up to this friday's class material so I would focus of the first two weeks of information. The lecture videos that Lavelle posted cover a lot of the information and have great practice problems!

I think that it is essential to understand the basic principles behind equilibrium and equilibrium expressions as they are going to be fundamental ideas throughout the rest of the course.

I think it will be on chemical equilibria and acids and bases! I find it helpful to go to the peer learning sessions in Covel because they typically cover the test topics!

I would do all of the problems listed in outlines 1 and 2 to really master all of the material.

Practice problems are definitely helpful, but make sure to go over your notes. Also, when you take notes in class, make sure you pay special attention to the things Lavelle mentions but doesn't put up on the slides. He tends to include some questions that require information on these minute details, and it really helps if you know the connections he made in class.

Definitely DEFINITELY master the ice tables. I think it’s a good idea to go back over homework problems with either a really small K or a really large K when you can use the method of estimating.

I'm not sure if Lavelle would structure his exams as he did 14A, but his tests were wickedly based on the homework. So, if you understand every single homework problem (Even the long complex ones) you will do awesome) :)

The first two outlines should be the focus. Doing all/most of the homework problems, especially the focus questions, would definitely help a lot. Also, go back to read the textbook for any concepts that seem vague.

I just took the test today and I think the peer learning worksheets are really great for nailing the fundamentals metals and if you have the time you should do them before the test.

I'd recommend going through all the homework problems s on the syllabus, as the test will be very similar. You don't necessarily have to work them all out, but reading through the questions and corresponding solutions will help you locate any knowledge gaps.
