### Pressure and equilibrium

What effect does pressure have on the equilibrium of the reaction?

If the pressure is increased the reaction will go towards the side with fewer gas particles. If you decrease the pressure the reaction will go to the side with more gas particles.

this is a good quick way to do it, but Dr.Lavelle also emphasized that the reason behind this shift is how pressure changes the concentration, not simply its shift towards less gas particles.

### Re: Pressure and equilibrium

Pressure doesn't affect the equilibrium constant though right? It will only shift it one way or the other?

### Re: Pressure and equilibrium

You are right, pressure does not affect the equilibrium constant.

yep! heat is the only measure that affects the equilibrium constant

Wait, you mean heat as well as concentration of either the products or the reactants right?

### Re: Pressure and equilibrium

concentration of either the products or reactants do not change the equilibrium constant, they simply shift the reaction

### Re: Pressure and equilibrium

Pressure does not affect the equilibrium constant. Only temperature changes the equilibrium constant.

### Re: Pressure and equilibrium

Also, solids and liquids are NOT affected by pressure.
