solvent
How can you tell when a solvent is part of the reaction? For example self test 5G.3A on page 401 how was it decided which molecules are involved in the equilibrium constant?

Re: solvent
if the states of the molecules are gas (g) or aqueous (aq) they are involved in the reaction but if the states are liquid (l) or solid (s) they are not included.

Re: solvent
Only gaseous and aqueous substances will be included in the equilibrium constant equations.

Re: solvent
A solvent is what you used to dissolve another substance and that substance tends to be a liquid of some sort. So if it stated that the state of the molecule is liquid you don't include it in finding's the equilibrium constant. Solvent=(usually) liquid. You don't uncle pure solids as well so anything that the equation states is in a state of solid.
Re: solvent
Only products and reactants with (aq) or (g) next to them will be included in the equilibrium constant expression. If it has (l), which solvents will, or (s), it is not included in the expression.
Re: solvent
Due to an activity of 1, solids and liquids are not included since they would have no impact on the equilibrium constant. Knowing this, you only include (aq) and (g) species to calculate the equilibrium constant.

Re: solvent
Only include (aq) and (g) in your equilibrium, as solids and liquids/solvents like H2O are not.

Re: solvent
A solvent is the substance in excess that other reactants are being dissolved in. E.g. Water is a solvent. Salt is a solute

Re: solvent
If I'm not wrong, in the scopes of our class, solvents tend to be H2O (l) and will probably only be water.

Re: solvent
Solvents tend to be liquid (l), thus won't be included in equilibrium constant calculations. Additionally, solids won't be included as well, due to their activities being equal to 1. Aqueous solutions and gases are always included.
