calculating % ionization

I'm a little confused on how you calculate the percent ionization of an acid or a base, and what that means.

You take the ion concentration that the acid or base produces( so if HA is the acid, the ion will be A-) and divide it by the initial concentration of acid or base.

I agree with the previous response, you do [A-]/[HA], and then x100 to get the percentage.

You divide the concentration of the acid ion but the initial concentration of the acid itself.

% ionization is calculated by dividing the [H30] or [OH] concentration by the concentration of the original acid/ base. Essentially, the higher the concentration of the OH or H30 ions the higher the percent ionization.
