What does delta U represent? What are the units?

Delta U represents the change in internal energy, which consists of work W and heat Q. The units will be in joules.

Delta U equals work plus q. I think for this class we do not need to worry about the work involved in a calorimeter reaction/heat reaction. We only need to know the simplified version, when there is no excess work done, where delta h equals q.

∆U is the change in the internal energy of the system. Mathematically it equals work + q.

I think we might be going over this stuff in class later in the week.
