Topics on the Midterm
What topics will the midterm cover? Will we have to know all of Thermodynamics as well?

Re: Topics on the Midterm
According to Lavelle's website, the topics covered on the midterm will be Chemical Equilibrium, Acids and Bases, Thermochemistry, and Thermodynamics, so yes, you should know all of Thermodynamics.

Outlines 1 through 4 will be on the midterm, so yes that includes Thermodynamics!

Re: Topics on the Midterm
I think by the end of this week we will have gone over most of thermodynamics, so the midterm will include outlines 1-4.

He should be finishing up outline 4 this Friday, but whatever he covers up until on Friday will be the material that is fair game for the midterm.

The midterm will cover everything until the end of the thermodynamics outline! He should finish lecturing on it this week
Re: Topics on the Midterm
Topics on the midterm would include everything we've learned from week 1 to the end of this week (week 5). ALl of thermodynamics should be on the test!

Everything for topics 1-4. I believe he said that he will begin and finish covering Gibbs free energy in the lecture this coming Wednesday and Friday. Does anyone know if we will be learning new things next week on Monday and Wednesday?

I think Dr. Lavelle will go over past exam questions in class on Monday, and on Wednesday there will be TAs doing Q&A sessions during lectures.

Re: Topics on the Midterm
Friday's (today's) lecture IS included on the midterm, but it cuts off there, at Gibbs free energy. He explained in class that the Midterm will include everything up to today. In the outline of thermodynamics, there are two sheets of learning objectives; the midterm will have everything on the first sheet. The second sheet (which starts to explain the relationship between Gibbs free energy and the equilibrium constant) IS NOT ON THE MIDTERM. Also, for the HW problems for Thermodynamics the first block of problems are the only applicable problems to the test.
So the midterm will include Outline 1 (Equilibrium), Outline 2 (Acids and Bases), Outline 3 (Thermochemistry and 1st law) and that portion of Outline 4 (Thermodynamics).

Acids and bases, equilibrium, all of thermochemistry, and the first page of the thermodynamics concepts on lavelle's outline

Does anyone have a list of the formulas we should be familiar with for this midterm?

The formula sheet is the same one we got for Test 1

I believe we have to review everything from outlines 1-4 including gibbs free energy but anything after that won't be covered in the test.

Re: Topics on the Midterm
In Friday's lecture, Prof. Lavelle said the midterm will cover everything from outline 1 to outline 4. Except in outline four, there are two sheets of learning objectives and the midterm will have everything on the first sheet, the second sheet however is not on the midterm.
