Hi! I understand through the lecture that an adiabatic system means no heat flow, but I'm a little confused on how this relates to the notes right before it, which was the reversible pathway and the irreversible pathway. Can someone explain this please? Thank you very much!

I think professor lavelle just included adiabatic because he stated that some textbooks/questions use that term. It just means there is no heat flow in the system, therefore q = 0. In regards to reversible/irreversible reactions, reversible reactions are isothermal which means there is no change in temperature in the system, but both reversible and irreversible reactions still have heat flow into it.

Also adding onto this question if that’s okay, do adiabatic and isothermal mean the same thing?

they do not! adiabatic means there is no transfer of heat, so q=0.
isothermal means that the temperature remains constant, so deltaT=0.
