### Microstates

Are micro states always dependent on the number of bonds? Would we have to calculate the entropy of more complex molecules?

Increasing the number of molecules in a system can increase the number of microstates, since there are more possible arrangements of the molecules. Increasing the volume can also increase the number of positions where each molecule can be, which would increase the number of microstates. I don’t think we would be asked to calculate the entropy of more complex molecules since that would take a lot of time.

I wouldn't say they're dependent on the number of bonds but rather on the different placements of atoms (like how many positions they can take). Octahedrals would definitely have more microstates than a tetrahedral, for example.

A microstate is the possible arrangements of the molecule.

There are multiple factors that contribute to higher multiple micro states but complexity is one of them. if you increase the number of bonds you are therefore increasing complexity increasing entropy. Although this differs in the case of going from two substances to one larger more complex molecule.
