First Law of Themordynamics

Postby 504999222 » Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:40 pm

So what's the difference between the Law of Conservation of Energy and First Law of Thermodynamics because both of them seems to have the same definition, "the total amount of energy in the universe is constant, energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed"?

The First Law of thermodynamics is a "version" of the Law of Conservation of Energy. They're the same thing, but the First Law is adapted for thermodynamic processes.

The Law of Conservation of Energy was coined by Mayer in 1842, and now it has been compiled with the others as the 1st law of Thermodynamics. They are one and the same

I think for all intents and purposes they represent the same idea.

They represent the same concept.
